day four:
a picture of a habit you wish you didn't have.

oh man. WHAT an annoying habit! so my grandmother was an english teacher. as were some of my aunts, and my mom has always been a huge stickler for grammar. as a result, I can't help but notice typos, grammatical mistakes, misspellings, etc. it drives me crazy and i know it bothers other people too, but that's not the only reason i'm really starting to hate this habit. i realized that at times i would discredit a source just bc of its mistakes. that's just ridiculous. no one has perfect grammar all the time. plus, just because someone isn't really a great communicator, that doesn't mean they can't still have brilliant ideas or something interesting to say. can't miss out on society just bc they can't always spell. :)

day three:
a picture of the cast from your favorite show.

when i was reallyy young i would sneak and watch this show all the time. when it finally ended, i was in middle school. i taped the finale and all the reunion specials on my vcr. it's pretty corny, but i spent a good amount of my childhood watching it and i have most of the seasons on dvd now. one of my favorite shows for nostalgia's sake! :)

i lovelovelove detective stories! nancy drew was my absolute favorite (i even joined her "detective club") and veronica mars is sort of like a modern day version of that. she's a high school girl doubling as a detective trying to solve her best friend's murder. i'm not sure why amanda seyfried wasn't in any of the cast photos i found!

i've been little miss handyman around the house lately! i put a new shelf up in the bathroom, along with sewing up a couple of couch pillows (in progress), making a new key hook, and fixing up a coffee table from my sister. i got the table fixed, but i guess when i stained it i didn't take off enough excess. take two will be next week. tomorrow we're having a small cook out for my birthday and i'm really looking forward to a relaxing day with friends!

here's that key hook-

the tin is from the 1800's, it was in my grandparents' house for years and i snagged it out of the back of my dad's truck on its way to goodwill. gorilla glue is holding the hooks in place (my drill bit was slightly too large), but that also means it's nice and sturdy! not your conventional every day key holder, but it goes really well in my kitchen and overall in my apartment full of used but redone pieces. just goes to show that you can have a nice home without spending tons of money, and the projects are a really nice hobby for me as well.
i also recently discovered netflix, and let me just take this moment to state how wonderful i think this invention is! why in the world am i just now getting on board with this? the only drawback is that my queue is full of weird movies for my humanities course. but once those are done with, interesting things here i come! plus, the watch instantly feature is blowing me away daily.

have i posted since the new year? ... happy (belated) new year! and happy mlk jr day(also belated)!

today my first full-internet semester begins. lots and lots to read, which makes me happy, but at the same time i'm already feeling a bit of the stress. i've taken less than a handful of internet courses, none of which were really given much attention as my grades in those courses reflect. but! this should be my very last semester before finally having my AA in english. where to go from there is still being mulled over in my brain and probably will be until the very last possible minute. i'm crossing my fingers that i'll stay motivated enough to tackle 5 classes this time around. american lit 2, british lit 2, american minority studies, walking I, and speech. really nervous about speech, since most of the speeches i've ever given have not ended in my favor... unless it was because the teacher or professor felt sorry for me. . like the times i cried, but at least crying isn't as embarrassing as vomiting, right? ... this is why i've put my speech class off for such a long time.

this morning i also got my own very-first-flat-tire! surprisingly, it wasn't the fiasco i always imagined. it happened pulling out of my carport and was so subtle that i only noticed a block down the street. sometimes on the highway i imagine getting a flat while driving between two 18-wheelers, or in some other precarious situation. not in a morbid way, but in the "i'm-only-thinking-about-this-so-if-it-ever-happens-i'll-be-prepared" sort of way. the good kind of neurotic :-)
