taking a small break from my photo challenge to post a little project i'm in the middle of.

the wall behind that chair used to be an awful shade of pink. now that it's looking that great, i had to do something to those old chairs. i guess this picture doesn't do the 'before' shot justice, since you can't see all the little snags from my cat. anyways, this matches our glass-top dining table and i really do like the chairs, i just wanted something new and fun.

so here's what i did. i got that purple fabric from goodwill. it was 99cents f
or a great big thing of it. (definitely enough for four dining chairs) the first chair i did without removing any of the old fabric. i just stapled the purple on top, but then when i tried to put the cushion back on, it sat too high and the screws were too short. so i started over. i realized that if i just took off that extra ridge/edge deal on the bottom of the cushion, i could put the purple on without taking off ALL of the old fabric, and the screws still reach! now that i kind of know what i'm doing, it won't take an entire day to do the other three chairs. i love that this project is so easy, quick, and not at all pricey!

i've been little miss handyman around the house lately! i put a new shelf up in the bathroom, along with sewing up a couple of couch pillows (in progress), making a new key hook, and fixing up a coffee table from my sister. i got the table fixed, but i guess when i stained it i didn't take off enough excess. take two will be next week. tomorrow we're having a small cook out for my birthday and i'm really looking forward to a relaxing day with friends!

here's that key hook-

the tin is from the 1800's, it was in my grandparents' house for years and i snagged it out of the back of my dad's truck on its way to goodwill. gorilla glue is holding the hooks in place (my drill bit was slightly too large), but that also means it's nice and sturdy! not your conventional every day key holder, but it goes really well in my kitchen and overall in my apartment full of used but redone pieces. just goes to show that you can have a nice home without spending tons of money, and the projects are a really nice hobby for me as well.
i also recently discovered netflix, and let me just take this moment to state how wonderful i think this invention is! why in the world am i just now getting on board with this? the only drawback is that my queue is full of weird movies for my humanities course. but once those are done with, interesting things here i come! plus, the watch instantly feature is blowing me away daily.

this week i started a new project for the new apartment. i'm knitting that pillow ---> in a color called "goldfish." the yarn is
vanna white's brand. it's weird to me that she has her own line of yarn.

it's probably going to take me awhile to finish, anyways. i get really bored really quickly when a pattern doesn't change it up any, and especially when it calls for two 15in squares of it, not to mention a few 6ft strips. the only thing that keeps me from adding this to my massive pile of unfinished projects is the thought of how awesome the finished pillow will look in my new place. :-)
